My 5 «Secrets» to an Optimal Self-Image

I have an overriding meaning in life, the driving force to succeed. I want to give myself the opportunity to become everything I dream of. Here are my five “secrets” to an optimal self-image.

1. Keep your promises

I do what I have promised myself to do. I know that the feeling I get from not doing what I say I should, pushes me down. Therefore, I always consider the consequence of not doing what I am supposed to do. The consequence of doing what I promise myself is always compatible with who I want to be.

2. Learn from mistakes

If you want something to be different, you have to do something different. Do not make the same mistake twice and expect a different result. Use the wisdom of past experiences to not fall into the same traps again. Your mistakes are there for you to learn from.

3. Do not take the easiest way out

I do not get a better self-image from overeating and lying on the couch, or doing other things that gives me short-term happiness. I’m not saying it’s not important to enjoy life, but it’s important to feel that you deserve it. I have a feeling of not being good enough from my childhood roots. Therefore it is easy for me to take the easiest way out. That is why it’s very important for me to make good choices that are compatible with my values and who I want to be.

4. Patience

Deep, lasting change in the chemistry of a person takes time! It takes time to change old patterns so that you are renewed with a sense of balance. It is important that you have some routines that you repeat every day. With discipline to repeat, you create new patterns that are in line with one you may love. It can often be extreme at first, but if you persevere you will find yourself on the right path.

5. Hold on tight

Your life is constantly changing, so you should never give up when the storm is coming. You are not a reliable source of knowledge when you are in the middle of a storm. Wait until it’s over to make a choice. As you move toward your true self, you change along the way. What was tough yesterday may be easier today.

Life does not always turn out the way one would expect. We are all going through both ups and downs. Maybe life has made you into a person that you wish you weren’t. You can change yourself by behaving like the person you want to become. I have personally experienced that I become the person I move towards. Over time, you can look back on your old self with a big twinkle in your eye. Good luck on the road ahead my friend.
